Summary

The applicant, who is a Georgian national, argued that prison authorities in Georgia provided him with inadequate treatment for Hepatitis C – the disease he got in prison – in violation of Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (‘No one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment’). The Court found the violation of Article 3 in regard to medical treatment provided before the date of 30 October 2008 and no violation for the period starting after this date.
